Act 7

By Shizuka Koike, Shio

“Oh Char, how carefree of you to play chess at a time like this…”

Garma said as he entered the room.

“Garma… Are you being sarcastic towards me…?”

Char didn’t take his eyes off the chessboard and seemed not to care about Garma at all. Garma, a little annoyed by his attitude, sat down on the other side of the chessboard, and stopped Char’s hand as he was about to move a new piece.

“What are you doing…Garma?”

Char finally looked up.

“I came all the way to your room, and that’s the kind of attitude you have?!”

His expression was clearly irritated –

Char watched his expression for a while, then slowly pulled his hand away from Garma’s.

“I’m sorry, Garma.”

He said quietly.

Garma, who was all the more bewildered at the sincere apology, couldn’t think of any words to say in return, but the chessboard happened to catch his eye and he said,

“Playing chess alone?”

“Yes, of course…”

“Isn’t that a waste of time? Once this war is over, we can relax and…”

“I was thinking about strategy.”

“Eh!?”

“I was using chess to think of a strategy. If only I could properly use the rook and knight.”

“Using chess…”

Garma couldn’t help but laugh as he quietly repeated Char’s words and looked at each piece one by one.

“…To think of a strategy based on something like this…Char, can you please stop joking? Hahaha!”

Char looked at Garma who was laughing loudly.

“Now as for you…”

He muttered as he moved a piece.

“Checkmate!”

While caught up in Char’s words, Garma’s eyes unconsciously followed the pieces.

“What…Char! What’s the meaning of this?!”

Char remained silent, expression unchanging.

Garma slammed his fist on the chessboard.

“How absurd!!”

He yelled those words and left Char’s room.

In the room, which had returned to its original silence, Char was replacing the pieces that had fallen over.

“The gambit* is going perfectly.”

The look on his face – a fearless smile.

*T/N: a gambit is a chess opening in which a player sacrifices material with the aim of achieving a subsequent positional advantage

Act 8

By Haruki, Muu Aoi

“A good friend, huh? Hehe…”

“What is it, Char…what’s so funny?”

“You once said to me that I was your good friend.”

“Yes.”

“And this is the result?”

“If that weren’t the case, then you’d have no reason to come to my room.”

“It would be unbecoming if I, a major, were to ignore the call of a colonel such as yourself.”

“You’re not one to care about such tacit agreements, Char…”

“…It’s a frivolous method that doesn’t suit someone as prideful as you… Wine and drugs…”

“I have a hard time believing that you weren’t fully aware of what you drank.”

“It’s the same either way…even if I had noticed, would you have done anything different?”

“That deep perception of yours is one of the things I find attractive…”

“If you wish to have subordinates to act as your playthings, I’m sure there are many who would follow you. Or is it your petty pride that keeps you from being satisfied with the toys you’ve been given?”

“No matter how much the prey in my hand howls… there’s no way you can hold a candle to me now, Char.”

“You’re right… It’s true I can’t match you right now…”

“Has this further deepened your desire for revenge against me? Against the Zabi family? Char…no, Casval.”

“Heh…hahaha… how impressive. Garma… you knew and still kept me close… I really must show my respect for your pride.”

“That might be fun too…don’t you think?”

“You certainly have a lot of confidence, Garma… Heh.”

“Enough with the chatter, let’s get to the point.”

“Do as you like…”

“Oh… how gracious of you.”

“Even if it doesn’t work out… you still want to try?”

“It seems like I’m being taken too lightly…”

“Ugh… Is that…how it is?”

“There’s no way you’re mentally broken already… Not a man capable of plotting revenge against the Zabi family.”

“…”

“Heh…”

“If you’re going to laugh, then laugh, Garma…”

“I see… Confident as always… Is it so humiliating to be held by me?”

“I… I don’t want to be touched by an assassin’s son…”

“Heh…hahaha…”

Char once again closed his eyes as Garma’s loud laughter reached his ears.

A few days later, Char returned the humiliation he had suffered – with a cool salute.

Act 9

By Shio, Shizuka Koike

Universal Century 0079

On the day Garma died, nearly all of humanity was wiped out, leaving only a few people on Side 3.

Due to countless military regulations, Granada, Solomon, and Federation officers had gathered in the neutral zone of Side 6 and then scattered back to their home countries. At this time, Garma, betrayed by Char, was screaming as he gripped the control stick of the Gaw, whose engine had been hit.

“Glory to the Principality of Zeon!!”

There was a chemist with carbon monoxide poisoning in Side 6. His name was Tem Ray, and he had just entered a bookstore carrying a coffee pot. The old man working there was actually a spy sent to Side 6 by the Federation Forces.

“Did you make it?”

“Yes.”

Nodding, Tem Ray handed the pot to the old man.

MM88 – At above absolute zero temperatures, this bacteria multiplies at an incredible rate, causing the death of all living organisms.

“Show me.”

“Okay, okay.”

The unfortunate fact was the old man’s ignorance and Tem Ray’s lack of common sense. Since the moment it had been placed in the pot, MM88 began to multiply abnormally, and the instant the lid was opened, it engulfed all the people of Side 6 without anyone even realizing what happened.

By the time the officers from Solomon and Granada arrived at their respective fortresses, Kycilia and Dozle had already left for Zeon. The rumor of Garma’s death had created a frenzy within the bases. In the midst of the commotion and panic, one by one, people collapsed. By the time others noticed, they had breathed their last breaths.

The Federation was in the same situation. Amuro Ray, a civilian who had been staring in shock at the crashed Gaw, died in the Gundam’s cockpit. Bright Noa, an officer cadet who was trying to contact the Gundam, died in the White Base, and Icelina, who had hit her fist against a tree and broke down crying, died while emotionally distraught. Everyone died.

The people of Zeon were not yet aware of this dire situation.

“…The Garma you all loved has died! Why?!”

“Because he was a spoiled kid.”

Some men were giving speeches in high spirits, while others were drinking nonchalantly. The national funeral of the Zabi family’s youngest son, Garma Zabi, went smoothly.

Dozle was the first to notice. He had dispatched Garma’s revenge squad to Earth. There had been no further communications from the Zanzibar…

The one who revealed the situation was Kycilia Zabi, or more accurately, her subordinate, Colonel M’Quve of the Earth Mining Base.

“I thought maybe the Federation had made a gas that could rival Zeon’s GG Gas, but… they’re all dead now… I’m also done for, so I at least want Lady Kycilia to have that vase…”

“Forget about the vase! What about…?”

“…”

The final sound was a static that was unbecoming of a laser radio. It was the last time Zeon was able to communicate with anyone on the outside, and it was also the end for M’Quve. Kycilia kicked over the table in frustration and left the communications room.

Fear and anxiety swelled among the people of Zeon, as they were shaken by the truth that had been made public. It was then that one person stood up, a man named Commander Gihren Zabi. Surely it was in this man’s nature to stand out.

“Your enemy, the Federation Forces, have been annihilated! Why?!”

“Because they were spoiled kids.”

Char was punched by Kycilia. Ghiren continued to shout without paying any mind.

“Our country, which aimed to be a nation of excellent chosen people, has a small population. Until yesterday, this was a desirable state, but that is no longer the case! There are no more people in this world who are not Zeon citizens! The pure blood of Zeon must not die out!!”

“Yeah!!”

The people were excited. So excited, their heads were about to explode, Gihren’s too. The only one who realized that the situation could not be resolved so simply was Lalah Sune, who had been standing by in Zeon for a while waiting to be picked up from Loum and handed over to the Flanagan Institute. She knew that the percentage of women in the Principality of Zeon’s population was extremely low, so she took advantage of the turmoil to leave the military and open a brothel, making a lot of money. Needless to say, the manager of the brothel was Char Aznable.

And as time passed, humanity evolved… into Newtypes. With the small number of women in Zeon, the men turned to homosexuality to relieve their sexual frustrations, and eventually ended up having children with other men.

Ghiren and Dozle’s daughter was named Naliss after their mother. If only the child had been capable of reproduction, that would have been fine, but as the product of incest, it was rumored on the streets that she would not have a proper upbringing. Starting with Ghiren and Dozle, the number of Newtypes increased one after another.

On the dead Earth, there was only one writhing shadow. His clothes were tattered from exposure to the wind, and his limbs were emaciated. He leaned heavily on a walking stick as he searched for the ship. It wasn’t easy to find where he had crashed back then.

Icelina… Perhaps my precious woman has died after all.

The bittersweet sentiment brought tears to his eyes.

Char…!! The man who deceived me and tried to kill me…!

But he was the man I opened up to the most, and the man I long to meet again!

…I don’t want you to die…I want you to live…live…

With his cheeks now dry leaving traces of tears, his eyes cast into the distance.

“!!”

The copper body shining silver was definitely an atmospheric escape capsule.

“Garma!!”

Char was genuinely happy when he found out that Garma was alive. He seemed to have let go of any grudges he had against the Zabi family. It is said that his maternal instincts were awakened after he and Degwin had three children together.

Three months later, Char was promoted from Degwin’s concubine to Garma’s legal wife. And then, on their wedding night…

“Char!! You double crossed me, Char!!”

Char finally breathed a sigh of relief as Garma succumbed to death by intercourse. However, even Char was unaware that Garma would be resurrected…in his womb nine months later.
