The second half of the AEUG campaign centers on the conflict with Axis and the events of Gundam ZZ.
Part 2: AEUG vs. Axis Zeon
Here’s the updated map after Haman betrayed the AEUG and broke off the alliance.
Following the final battle with the Titans, we receive two new pilots, Roux Louka (from ZZ) and Sayla Mass (former White Base member and bonus character since we’ve beaten the game at least twice).
The Argama notifies us that during the last battle, Quattro went missing and has still not been found.
AEUG Officer: Urgent message from the Argama! Quattro Bajeena, who was participating in the colony laser capture operation, went missing during the battle.
Blex: He survived the One Year War… He must be alive somewhere. Please tell them to not give up and keep searching.
Speaking of the Argama, they have docked at Granada. Given everything that has happened to the ship and its crew, Blex agrees to finally disband them.
Blex: We need the Argama crew to become the center of the AEUG. Let’s disband the Argama.
This means at long last, we finally can use Kamille and Bright, as the Argama’s story is over for now. They both have very high stats as an added bonus for following story events, much like White Base’s crew did in the Federation playthrough.
Even though Kamille is okay in this timeline, Fa is still tired of fighting and asks to be discharged from the military. Allowing her to leave increases your law alignment, and preventing her from doing so makes it more chaotic. Apparently you can lock yourself out of the perfect ending if you choose no, as the alignment check for Quattro happens too soon after.
Meanwhile, taking advantage of the weakened AEUG, Axis attacks the Earth!
Here is the territory Axis gains on Earth.
Compared to the Titans, Axis is a much more formidable opponent. Their higher tech level from the start, plus the fact that you don’t get the usual few turn grace period before they attack you, makes things pretty challenging at first.
Retaking space begins by first taking back Gryps 2 and Luna II, then slowly making our way towards Axis. Side 1, Solomon, Side 3, and Axis are locked for now. Earth is pretty straightforward, with no operation plans needed.
After a few turns go by, Quattro at last returns…
Quattro: Sorry for making you worry.
Blex: You’ll be the one carrying the AEUG…no, the Earth Federation on your back. We’ll be in trouble if you don’t continue to survive.
Quattro: You shouldn’t think too highly of me. I’m just a soldier.
Blex: Hahaha… you don’t plan on becoming a politician yet, do you? Well, let’s have you play an active role on the front lines again.
Quattro: Yes. I can return to the front lines at any time. I look forward to your orders.
Quattro is available to use as a pilot right away as well. Speaking of pilots, here’s the first of many interaction lines from the battles that follow.
Bright: Hey Kamille, what’s wrong?
Kamille: I can feel it. Someone needs our help!
Bright: Are you feeling something beyond our understanding? It’s similar to Amuro Ray…
Haman: Huh, what…!? I’m getting goosebumps. What is it!?
Kamille: Haman Karn! You are the source of this fighting! You shouldn’t be allowed to live!
Haman: A Newtype?!
Amuro: Why did you come back to the Earth Sphere?
Quattro: I came here to laugh at you… Would saying that satisfy you?
Amuro: I’m not doing this because I want to! Even you should understand that!
Quattro: But I know you don’t want my sympathy. In that case, tell me that you want to be the same Amuro Ray you used to be. That’s what I want to hear the most!
After retaking all of the territory on Earth, we get an urgent communication – Axis is attempting to drop another colony on Earth!
While in the story the colony drop happens at Dublin, in game this means the base at Belfast will be targeted. Like with all other similar events in this game, a percentage of any units stationed there will be destroyed.
However, the tide of battle is turning. The AEUG is gaining strength in space once again, and the situation on Earth has weakened Axis’ forces and support for their cause. We unlock plans to attack Solomon and Side 1 in space.
Axis isn’t quite done on Earth yet, however, as they launch one final offensive against Belfast.
AEUG Officer: Urgent message from Belfast! Axis troops have invaded Belfast. Please prepare an interception immediately!
As long as there are AEUG units already stationed here or at least close by, this isn’t too much trouble.
Despite the AEUG’s gains, we’re told that due to the length of the conflict, there is a shortage of manpower. We’re asked if we would like to recruit help from the colonies.
AEUG Officer: Shouldn’t we solve the manpower shortage by broadening our recruitment to colony residents? We propose the “Colony Volunteer Recruitment Plan”.
Activating this plan will allow us to recruit the main cast of Gundam ZZ, starting with Judau and Iino.
In order to record as many interaction lines as possible, during the fight to take Solomon, we put a whole bunch of pilots together in the same ship and deployed them one after another. Enjoy!
Judau: I’m Judau Ashta! Are you Kamille-san?
Kamille: So you’re Judau… I look forward to working with you.
Judau: Hm…what…?
Judau: There’s a universe around me…
Judau: No… it must be an illusion… it’s too ridiculous…
Kamille: Hm? What’s up?
Judau: It’s nothing. I hope we get along, Kamille-san!
Amuro: Are you Judau-kun?
Judau: Do you need something?
Amuro: I’m worried that your eyes are wandering and you look out of it.
Judau: My eyes are wandering?
Amuro: You’re a pilot, right? If your thoughts are preoccupied with something unnecessary, you’ll die.
Judau: It would be better if you worked harder than a kid like me, because you’re a Newtype…
Amuro: I want you to blossom into a Newtype in a good way, without becoming like me. That’s why I’m saying this… You should smile carefreely.
Amuro: Kamille-kun, being able to sense your enemy is proof that you can become a good pilot!
Kamille: Like Amuro-san…?
Amuro: No, don’t make the same mistakes that I did. Empathizing with an enemy can lead to tragedy… Be careful.
Kamille: Understood…
Kamille: What should I do? What will I become if I become a pilot…
Quattro: The souls of the people of Earth are attracted by gravity, so they can’t fly…
Kamille: It doesn’t matter to me! So why are you a soldier?
Quattro: I don’t know any other way to live. That’s why I never got married…
Quattro: Artesia… you’re still in the military? I thought I told you to leave the military…
Sayla: Big brother, you’re caught up in ambition and delusion.
I didn’t want to see my big brother Casval like that…how many times did I think it would have been better if you had died?
Kai: Hey, isn’t that Sayla-san? What happened? I thought you retired from being a pilot…
Sayla: Aren’t you the one who quit being a pilot?
Kai: In the current situation, I can’t say that, because every a little bit of strength is needed.
Kai: It’s been a while, Amuro. Let’s get along like we used to.
Amuro: Like in the past…? We…weren’t really that close…
Kai: You’re the same as always. I like the way you put it…
Kai: Hey Hayato, how are your wife and kids doing?
Hayato: Yes, Fraw and the children are doing well. You should visit them after the battle is over.
Kai: Yeah, in order to do that, we have to end this battle quickly!
Bright: I’ve heard a lot about you. And…I feel like I’ve known you for a long time. I look forward to your continued support in the future.
Quattro: Me too… I’m glad I’ll be able to see how you handle things…
Sayla: It’s been a while, Bright Noa…
Bright: You too, Sayla… you seem to be doing well…
Sayla: This next battle is going to be tough…
Bright: Yes. Now out there in space, many young people are fighting, just like you all in the past…
Amuro: It’s been a while, Bright! How’s Mirai-san?
Bright: Ah…she’s evacuating with our children, and I’m sure she’ll manage somehow.
Amuro: Yes, Mirai-san can handle it.
Amuro: Hey Hayato, when I look at the young guys, I feel like I’m getting old…
Hayato: I don’t want to hear those complaints from you…I’m thinking of having you train the young guys.
Amuro: Isn’t it the other way around… don’t you just want them to train me?
Hayato: I know someone very similar to you, the man who once fought in a previous conflict and was known as the Red Comet.
Quattro: I don’t want people to overestimate me too much. Let’s say for a moment that I am Char, what would you say?
Hayato: You’re just a coward right now. No matter how many years it takes, you should become the prime minister of the Earth Federation government!
Quattro: But I’m Quattro Bajeena! I can’t live up to your expectations.
Kai: First the mask, now sunglasses. Why hide the fact that you are Char?! Why do you go to such lengths to be a pilot?!
Quattro: I’m Quattro Bajeena, and that’s all I can say right now.
Kai: Well, when the time comes, you’ll make your move. If that doesn’t work, then you’re just a coward.
After capturing Solomon and Side 1, only Side 3 and Axis itself remain. However, a new foe has appeared – Glemy Toto’s faction, which has rebelled and split off from Haman’s forces.
Here’s the updated map, with Glemy’s faction now in blue, and his base at Side 3. Annoyingly, they take territory in both space and Earth (and as you can see, we had already moved forces off Earth)
Coincidentally, the rest of the ZZ team joins us to help soon after – Elle, Beecha, and Mondo.
Even though Glemy’s faction just appeared, Haman’s forces have been pushed back far enough that we now can attack them at her base at Axis. If the ZZ story events were active, I believe the reformed Argama would handle fighting Haman for this, but we’ll have to take her down ourselves.
Here’s some pilot lines from the fight.
Judau: This is… Double Zeta… It’s amazing… It’s a whole level of power above Zeta!
Elle: We’ve got company!
Iino: This is no joke! We’re all gonna die!
Haman: Char… if you would come with me… we wouldn’t have to fight!
Quattro: Stop! I just don’t want to take the world in the wrong direction!
Following that battle, an unexpected turn of events occurs – Wong Lee has joined us as a pilot.
Wong: Blex-kun, hasn’t the AEUG been slacking a bit lately? I’ll retrain those spaced-out pilots of yours. Call me anytime.
I believe this is a bonus if you are at max law alignment and have beaten the game multiple times. Funny enough, you can put him in almost anything…
…even a Xi Gundam.
With Haman gone, the last thing we need to do is defeat Glemy’s faction.
Blex: Starting now, our army will begin an operation to capture Side 3. We must absolutely stop Glemy’s goal of domination through the Zabi family’s bloodline! I look forward to your efforts!
Ple Two: Ple…Ple is getting in my way…
Ple Clone: …!?
Judau: Hey! Roux! I guess you got lost again!
Roux: I’m not that clumsy, actually you should follow me more closely!
Judau: Ple Two! You’re being deceived! You’re just being used!
Ple Two: This enemy…is it Judau?!
Judau: Why don’t you realize that during your long sleep, you were made into a doll that only follows someone else’s orders!
Ple Two: I’m a doll…!?
Judau: Otherwise…why would a young girl be made to fight…!
Ple Two: That’s stupid… I’m me!
Glemy: I won’t keep letting you do as you please!
Roux: Glemy!?
Glemy: What!? Roux Louka?!
Roux: You… you’re so persistent!
With Glemy defeated and the conditions for the perfect ending met, the battle is over at last. Blex and Quattro share a few words.
Blex: Really…Were we finally able to reach this day…?
Quattro: Congratulations. Peace will now return to the Earth Sphere.
Blex: No, it’s more difficult to keep peace than to create it.
Quattro: That’s right. There’s still work to be done to send people attracted by Earth’s gravity into space.
Blex: That’s right… To that end, I need you to cooperate in places other than the battlefield.
Quattro: Yes, it may not be much, but I will do what I can to help.
Blex: Hm, I look forward to your continued support.
And so, the credits roll…
AEUG Perfect Victory
The AEUG, led by Blex Forer, won the battle, and forced the Earth Federation government to grant expanded autonomy to the space colonies.
Then, while the chaos of the battle was still lingering, Blex proposed to the Assembly the relocation of the Earth Federation government to space, which had been his plan for some time.
Although there was great opposition, by gaining the backing of the Space Colony Autonomous Government, the Assembly approved the relocation.
By accomplishing this feat, Blex Forer’s name will be etched in history for a long time.
But don’t forget. In the shadow of these great accomplishments, there was a hero.
Char Aznable…
Under the fake name Quattro Bajeena, he became a major member of the AEUG, and continued to support it along with Blex.
Blex Forer and Char Aznable.
Through the help of these two heroes, humanity is freed from the shackles of Earth…
…and have started on the path to a new evolution.
